Macrovision announces SafeAudio Version 3

Macrovision, the company behind SafeAudio, SafeDisc and also VHS and DVD copy protections has today announced version 3 of their audio CD copy protection SafeAudio.

The latest changes seem to be copied from other copy protections as SafeAudio now also has a Digital Right Management system that should allow consumers to make for e.g 3 backups (fair use). One of the major issues of copyprotection developers is the compability with hardware as copyprotection take the CD standards to the limits.

New features SafeAudio v3 :

  • New patent-pending ``AudioLok(TM)'' technologies offer increased protection and finely tunable multi-level security options
  • Support for multi-session CDs with third party Digital Rights Management (DRM) options, allowing ``fair use'' by consumers on PCs and digital audio players
  • Enhanced mastering, verification and testing tools requiring no change or addition to existing production lines

Another new feature is (the improved !?) AudioLok that are actually errors on the CD, corrected by audio CD players and by the computer. An earlier version of SafeAudio seemed to be easy to bypass as we posted on our site a little while ago.
