Mitsubishi to offer Vudu with purchase of TV

Mitsubishi America is prepared to start a new offer that will offer a free Vudu HD set-top box and movie credits to customers who purchase select HDTVs from Mitsubishi.

The deal will run from July 16 to August 10, and will not likely be extended once it ends.

“We simply wanted to provide a value-add bundle other than Blu-ray, something new and exciting for our retailers,” Mitsubishi Marketing VP Frank DeMartin told Twice.

The Vudu HD box retails for $149, and the company also is providing $50 of content download credits, offering an enticing option for HDTV shoppers.  Other HDTV manufacturers are offering free Blu-ray players or Blu-ray movies, as the TV industry tries to get consumers to spend money during a down economy.

Vudu has working agreements with most major movie studios, along with numerous independent studios, which means viewers have a wide catalog of content to select from.  Furthermore, Vudu often begins to offer new movies the day they are released on DVD, which is a new strategy several other services offer now as well.

More than 2,000 HD movies are available through Vudu, with TV episodes and other streaming content available.

I find it extremely interesting the number of deals I've seen in the past six months that offer free goodies to consumers purchasing new HDTVs.

Do manufacturing deals like this one from Mitsubishi help you decide which HDTV you're going to purchase?
