NASA to broadcast Atlantis launch in HD

NASA is set to televise the launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis, on its mission to the Hubble Space Telescope, in high definition.

The HD coverage will start with Friday's STS-125 Countdown Status Briefing from Kennedy Space Center, continuing throughout the weekend to include the arrival of the crew, countdown briefings, launch pad structure retraction and other events leading up to Monday's scheduled launch.

The Space Shuttle Atlantis STS-125 will carry a crew of seven on the fifth and final mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. The upgrades will allow the telescope to function for at least another five years. The mission's spacewalks will be filmed with IMAX cameras for "Hubble 3D", a film to be released in 2010.

Coverage of events will be available on Nasa TV, while live coverage of the launch will also be broadcast on HDNet.
