The iPod
has been a big shot in the arm for Apple and Steve Jobs. Some 3 million or more are out there shuffling songs for the masses. Simply walking down the street with the white earplugs visible, will bring a nod of approval and a knowing smile from other Pod People. In addition, the iPod has developed quite a community online. Yet, even with this enormous success story, Jobs is not sitting still, nor is he afraid to tinker with the player. Therefore, Monday, behold the iPod: Next generation.

You can visit the Engadget site to see the Newsweek magazine cover. They also mention that the Newsweek story is live and link to it. However, they say that there is little information about the new version of this very popular device. You can get some details at of all places MSNBC, they have some information there.  A few of the changes are a $ 399 dollar price tag, the ability to create multiple, on-the-go playlists and delete songs from them as well. Audiobooks are easier to find, you can listen to them at normal speed, slower or 25 percent faster, without a resulting change in pitch. Finally, through clever battery conservation techniques, it sports a 50% increase in play time.
