New materials to build LEDs

According to an article published at tuvps, some researchers at the University of California in San Diego have developed a new type of synthesized material that could lead to a reduction in costs for building LEDs.

LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are essential components for any optical device, like CD-ROM, DVD burners, and also latest generation optical devices like Blu-ray and HD-DVD.

Even if not specified in the article, probably this material needs more evaluation about reliability and costs, but it seems a promising step forward cheaper optical devices.
