New more robust chips for SSD by Samsung and Sun

According to news published at Tech-On, Samsung and Sun are developing new more robust chips to build Solid State Drives (SSD) featuring a higher durability in time.

As already known, one of the main drawbacks of SSD is currently the limited number of read/write cycles, after which the chip becomes damaged. This limitation is the main reason why SSD cannot be used safely in servers, because these machines require a 24/7 operation, reducing heavily the disk life.

According to Samsung, the ability to use SSD also in servers (and the new "server-grade SLC memory" should allow this safely) will also produce a huge power saving (an SSD consumes much less energy than a conventional server HDD).
