OLED reaches mainstream position in 2010

Besides Sony, now Samsung has announced to offer OLED panels by 2009. Samsung SDI said that these OLED panels will be for large screen TVs and smaller monitors and notebooks. Wong-Jong Lee, vice president of the mobile marketing team, said in an interview with DigiTimes that Samsung will achieve a production capacity of three million panels in 2009. When Samsung achieves this magic number more economies will be reached and production costs will be more manageable, Lee explains. After 2009 Samsung expects the capacity to be doubled to six million in 2010.

According to DisplaySearch, sales of OLED displays are expected to surge 69% this year to more than $826.5 million. In 2009 and 2010 the OLED market will continue to grow by 83% and 53% respectively. By 2010 OLED reaches a mainstream position, concludes DisplaySearch.
