Pirate tries to hawk DVD's at Trading Standards office

Maybe this will give us a chuckle today, as we all have made an inappropriate remark now and then, or done something embarrassing. I'm not saying this is true, as it's so hard to believe, but maybe one of our readers can verify the story for us.

Trading Standards officers were left astounded after a man walked in trying to sell pirate DVDs.

The would-be hawker missed the large Trading Standards sign outside the office and walked into what he thought was an industrial unit.

He then walked up to staff at the office in Chelmsford, Essex, and asked if they were interested in buying any of his 150-strong collection of items.

Astonished staff told him they were very interested indeed in what he had to sell.

But when he realised where he was he ran off leaving behind his wares and £210 in cash.

Essex Police were quickly alerted and a man was later arrested in a supermarket in Chelmsford.

Oops! Talk about dumb criminal stories. That's about as smart as the crooks that tried to ransom a Krispy Kreme doughnut truck in the US the other day. "Apparently someone had called us on our Nextel phone to let us know they had our truck and they were holding it for ransom," said Michael Sharum, of the Krispy Kreme company. "Luckily a quick-thinking manager here at our facility got the 6th District police department on the phone in Detroit."

Officers say they found one suspect at Warren and Southfield roads in Detroit, holding a bag of doughnuts. The other suspect was found carrying the company's Nextel phone. Well, that didn't take long!
