Price cuts increase sales of 16x Super Multi DVD burners

GristyMcFisty used our news submit to tell us that
Hitachi-LG data storage (HLDS) have seen an increase of sales of they Super
Multi Format drives due to their recent price cuts. Sales of their 16x Super Multi Drive burners have totalled 1,500 for the first 10 days of this month up from the 1,500 - 2,000 units a month sales previously. Sources estimate that 3,000 - 4,000 16 x Super Multi Drives will be sold this month, this will put pressure on current 16x dvd writer manufactures. Before these price cuts 16x dvd dual format burners were outselling the 16x Super drives by 9:1 in the previous months.

Though the price cuts have increased sales in the short term it may no be all good news for the Super Multi Drives. The Price cuts may have increased sales but making the drives mainstream around the world is another factor only in Japan has the drive been able to do that. The DVD-RAM format is the most popular format in Japan but in the rest of the world the RAM format makes a very reliable impact and the + / - format is supreme.

Due to price cuts by Hitachi-LG Data Storage (HLDS), the LG LOGO sales volume of 16x Super Multi DVD burners totaled 1,500 units for the first 10 days of this month, trending up from recent monthly shipments of 1,500-2,000 units, according to local retail channels. The sources estimate that 3,000-4,000 16x Super Multi DVD burners will be sold in the channel this month, putting competitive pressure on manufacturers of 16x DVD Dual burners, which had been outselling 16x Super Multi drives 9:1 in previous months.

However, price cuts by HLDS may only have limited success in promoting Super Multi drives as mainstream products, worldwide, since except for Japan, the DVD-RAM format for discs and drives is much less popular than the DVD+R/-R formats.
