Safedisc for Linux, it's not even a joke

A company called Transgaming that ports games to the Linux platform announces today in a press release that it will use Macrovisions SafeDisc.

In the press release they talk about SafeDisc LT. SafeDisc LT gives publishers an 'installer only protection" option. This option only
requires the SafeDisc signature to be present at time of installation. So you don't need the original disc for every launch of the software.

We are pleased to be working with Macrovision, the foremost authority in copy protection software. Our adaptation of Macrovision's SafeDisc solution to function on Linux is an essential element in protecting the IP of TransGaming's partners,'' said Vikas Gupta, President and COO of TransGaming.

Brian McPhail, Vice President of Macrovision's computer software division added, ``It's the first time that Macrovision's copy protection is being applied to the Linux platform, demonstrating SafeDisc's flexibility, robustness and effectiveness for the software market.''

As far as I know there is no CloneCD like software on the Linux platform...
