Dee-27 used our news submit to tell us: "The new Sony NEC Optiarc drives have made an
appearance on our forums. These new drives are from the newly formed
alliance between NEC and Sony. The new AD-7170A drive features 18x burn speeds
on DVD+R/-R SL layer media and sports the best write quality we have seen so far
with media burned at 18x, and some of the fastest burn times.The new Optiarc
drives can also write DVD-RAM media at up to 12x.< /font>
Below, we
can see a graph of a scan created by member 2601. In this
test of the new Optiarc drive, a Mitsubishi 16x +R disc (MCC004) was written at
18x speed with a burn time of only 5 minutes and 27 seconds. As noted by Dee,
the drive did a very good job, even at this speed. There are more
