Toshiba still wants unified high definition DVD format

GristyMcFisty used our news submit to tell us about this story over at
C|Net that indicates Toshiba still wants to talk about having an end to this
next gen format war. It seems rather odd to be discussing this now.

Toshiba is a leading proponent of next-generation HD DVD optical disc technology, which competes with the Blu-ray standard promoted by Sony and Matsushita, a maker of Panasonic brand electronics. "We have not given up on a unified format. We would like to seek ways for unifying the standards if opportunities arise," Toshiba President Atsutoshi Nishida told an annual shareholders" meeting.

With Sony under the gun to get their PS3 out, it would
seem that there is little hope for discussing a unified format.
