Amazon debuts Kindle Owner's Lending Library for Prime customers

Amazon is giving people even more of a reason to be Amazon Prime members. Up until today the benefits for Prime included free two day shipping as well as access to Amazon Instant Video. Now, the company is adding book rentals to the list of extras that Prime members have access to.

Amazon calls this new feature the Kindle Owner's Lending Library. To get access you need to be a Prime member and own a Kindle, which isn't too steep a requirement considering the lowest end model only costs $79 right now. This book loaning service offers up thousands of books that can be checked out for free. Users can borrow one book a month with no due dates at all.

There are actually some very good options in the list including Fast Food Nation, The Hunger Games, and Kitchen Confidential to name a few. This service is a really nice add on for Prime members and especially well timed considering the Kindle Fire will debut on November 15 and the Kindle Touch one week later.

I always felt like I got my monies worth out of Prime with the two day shipping alone but giving me access to 13,000 videos as well as a good selection of books for free makes it easy to renew my membership every year. A Prime membership currently runs $79 a year and Amazon will happily give you a month free to check it out before making the plunge. Are you a Prime member? Do you take advantage of all of these new add ons to the service?
