Amazon introduces new online store

Amazon today launched the "Amazon Basics" line of products, a new electronics accessories store that will give Amazon an even larger advantage to offer consumers the ability to purchase everything they need from the online store.

The new line offers audio-video cables, DVD-Rs, HDMI cables with each product available for "significantly less" than products available in other places on the site.  The popular e-retailer promised it would expand the line in the weeks and months to come, which will help attract even more shoppers.

"We saw an opportunity to create a line of consumer electronics basics that combine quality and low prices for an overall focus on value," Amazon VP  of consumer electronics Paul Ryder said in a statement.

amazon_logoAmazon clearly wants to be able to be the one-stop shop e-retailer, and the company obviously thinks its new line will help.  This new store launch isn't truly surprising, as Wal-Mart and other stores already offer their own private-label items to complement brand-name items.

I'm still unsure if the new Amazon line will help, but it could be helpful solely from a marketing standpoint to new customers.  It should be interesting to see if the new store will be able to offer high-quality, low-price products for consumers.

Are you interested in this type of product line, or will you continue to purchase name brand products through other sections of the site?
