Apple fixes issue with iCloud for Windows that prevented installation of Windows 10 October Update

Apple has released an update for its iCloud for Windows software that resolves compatibility issues with the Windows 10 October 2018 Update. Earlier this month, Microsoft blocked computers with iCloud for Windows from receiving the October Update.

The software giant decided to block those computers because compatibility problems prevented photos to synchronize. On a support page on its website Microsoft explained the issue and stated it was working with Apple on a solution.

Now Apple has fixed the issue in iCloud for Windows, Microsoft has updated its website, stating, “Apple has released an updated version of iCloud for Windows (version 7.8.1) that resolves compatibility issues encountered when updating or synching Shared Albums after updating to Windows 10, version 1809.”

Apple doesn't state anything on its website about the issue, other than that the iCloud for Windows download page now states the software runs on Windows 7 and later, where it previously said it would work on Microsoft Windows 7 through Windows 10 April 2018 Update.

Users who have iCloud for Windows installed and who would like to upgrade to Windows 10 October 2018 Update, should first update to iCloud for Windows 7.8.1.  Else they won't be able to start the installation of the large Windows 10 update.
