Apple offers explanation for Siri's pro-life stance

That didn't take long. One day after users discovered the iPhone 4S' electronic assistant Siri wasn't being completely honest about abortion clinic locations (but was more than eager to point customers toward Viagra and escort services), and Apple has issued a statement calling it more beta blunder than deliberate moral stance.

Speaking to The New York Times, Apple Spokesperson Natalie Kerris dismissed the notion that the company purposely programmed Siri to refuse customer requests for abortion clinics and offer pro-life pregnancy centers instead.

"Our customers want to use Siri to find out all types of information, and while it can find a lot, it doesn't always find what you want," said Kerris. "These are not intentional omissions meant to offend anyone. It simply means that as we bring Siri from beta to a final product, we find places where we can do better, and we will in the coming weeks."

Despite the eyebrow-raising mistake, Siri's alleged beta form proved no slouch when it came to other provocative questions; it pointed toward escort services, marijuana, strip clubs and plastic surgeons with ease. Questions regarding emergency contraception and mammography, on the other hand, turned up blanks.

No word on exactly when Apple will upgrade Siri, though the company may want to hurry. The Internet will not rest until it discovers some other grand ironic mistake with the software.
