DVD-Ranger CineX HD under fire - quest for the truth going on

DVD-Ranger CineX HD appears to be a working solution against the Cinavia Blu-ray copy protection, however the software has become a controversial subject on Myce. The software does deliver Cinavia free audio- tracks in high quality audio, but some members on our site question what the software actually does.

The exact workings of the software have not been revealed and with some tests, they hope to be able to reproduce what the software is doing but haven't succeeded so far .

CineX HD requires the download of a fairly large database file and some Myce members found that these databases contain audio in certain frequencies. The members investigating assume that CineX HD might be combining the audio track of the Blu-ray movie to be backed up with audio from a source that never had Cinavia on it, which would be part of the database. Many movies are released on both Blu-ray and DVD and often either has an audio-track that is not Cinavia protected.

According to the developers of DVD-Ranger this is nonsense and  they claim they actually do remove Cinavia from audio tracks. They also state that the databases are only made available to decrease the processing time of the Cinavia removal. While DVD-Ranger has not commented on the contents of the database, they did state that Cinavia is not limiting itself to certain frequencies, but  instead the watermark is embedded in the entire frequency range. That would rule out that replacing only a part of the frequency range would remove Cinavia.

In the meanwhile the quest for the truth is going on, unfortunately one-sided as DVD-Ranger has stated not to comment anymore. The question remains, will our members find a way to replicate the methods of DVD-Ranger, or is the software doing what it promises and does it actually remove the Cinavia watermark from the audio tracks? The future will tell and it's too early to judge.

We've asked DVD-Ranger to show screenshots of the database creation, pictures of their setup or to comment on our story, but so far they've decided not to.
