Firefox blocks Flash by default due critical vulnerabilities

Mozilla, the company behind the Firefox browser, has started to block the popular Flash plugin due a vulnerability in the software. The plugin is blocked by default but the company promises the block will be lifted once the vulnerability is patched.

The head of the Firefox support team tweeted a picture today with the text 'Occupy Flash'. Adobe Flash is under fire after two critical vulnerabilities in the software were disclosed. The first leak, that was revealed last week has already been patched. However, another new leak has not been patched yet and can still be abused by cybercriminals.

Flash is used on a lot of websites to display interactive elements like videos. Android and iOS already don't support Flash for quite some time already and the Chief Security Office of Facebook yesterday called for the end of Flash for the browser.

Meanwhile websites are starting to replace Flash for HTML5, but the plugin is still used on many sites.
