A new version of the useful and popular Microsoft Autoruns tool has added support for VirusTotal. VirusTotal is an online virusscanner from Google which makes it possible to check files for malware by about 50 different antivirus scanners.
Autoruns was originally developed by Sysinternals which was acquired by Microsoft some time ago. The tool, only 280Kb when unzipped, provides extensive information about files, applications and processes that are loaded when Windows starts. It also provides information on what happens when Windows applications like Internet Explorer, File Explorer and Windows Media Player start.
The integration with VirusTotal makes it possible to show whether the scanners consider a file or process safe and if not, what they have found.
