A recently discovered malware, Cryptor Locker, which encrypts all your personal files and let's you pay a ransom to decrypt them again can be easily stopped with a free tool. The tool Crypto Prevent will prevent the malware to encrypt your files. The Crypto Locker malware has recently hit the news as it has an aggressive way of getting money out of your pocket.
It encrypts personal images, videos and document with a military grade encryption method. Experts have stated that the encryption is so strong that there's no way of decrypting the files without the appropriate decryption key. The developers of Crypto Locker store the key on their server and for $300 they will unlock your files again.
If you don't meet their deadline of 3 days then the fee is increased to $3000. After that, the malware developers claim the key is removed from their servers which renders your files useless forever.
The tool Crypto Prevent stops the malware from installing on your system. It tries to hide itself in a hidden folder where it copies an executable file which starts the actual encryption process.
