Giada unveils Android MiniPC with HDD bay & battery backup

Giada a company which specialises in miniature prebuilt and barebones PCs has announced their ARM based Mini PC, the Giada Q11 which runs Android 4.0. This functions much like an Android tablet, but as it lacks a built-in display, it functions as a set-top box which displays its output on an TV or monitor.

The Q11 features the AllWinner A10 System-on-Chip with Cortex A8 1GHz CPU and a Mali-400 graphics processor capable of decoding H.264 video at up to 1080p. It comes with 1GB of DDR3 RAM and 8GB of Flash storage on-board for storing the OS and Apps. A 2.5" SATA HDD can be installed in its 2.5" bay for storing bulky content such as movies or running a network server, Internet downloader, etc.

Its connectivity includes Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), Bluetooth, Infrared, HDMI (v1.3), VGA, LAN (100Mbps), 5 USB ports (1 front), serial COM port, S/PDIF., Microphone and a dual-channel 2W 8Ohm audio amplifier. For expansion, it includes a SD/MMC card reader, Mini-PCIe port and an LVDS display connection.

For those concerned about power consumption or who unplug everything before heading to bed or leaving the house, this MiniPC claims to use as little as 85% of the energy of a typical x86 based system and has a 2200mAh battery for power even when unplugged, allowing it to continue functioning as a media server, Internet download manager, etc. without having to keep it permanently plugged in.

Unlike the tiny USB stick-size Android devices widely available, this has an external Wi-Fi aerial as well as a LAN port, which should provide better internet/network streaming performance. It also claims Full HD 1080P support, which means that it should not downscale to 720p like some other Android TV devices do regardless of the HDMI resolution.
