Google Assistant can lock children's phone during diner

Google has added new functionality to its parental control app, Family Link. The new features are targeted at teenagers and the app can now also be used with Google Assistant. With Family Link, parents could limit Android usage of its children. With the app they can set time limits for usage of the device or for individual apps.

Previously this was only possible for children younger than 13 years.

Today the Family Link app receives an update that makes the app suitable for teenagers. With the app the same limits can be imposed on the Android usage of children older than 13 years. The difference is that teenagers from 13 and older, first have to provide permission to their parents to use Family Link. The teenager can also withdraw from Family Link. If that happens without permission of the parent, the Android device of the teenager is locked for 24 hours.

Basically, after the update, the Family Link app doesn't only work for devices of teeners, but also for adults. It could e.g. be used to keep an eye on the device of seniors, with their permission.

Family Link can also be used with Google Assistant. Parents can ask the digital assistant to lock the phone of their child if they start eating.

Users who want to download Family Link should be aware that there are two apps, one for parents and one for children.
