Google gets tough on websites that repeatedly contain malcious content

Google will start to mark websites that repeatedly contain harmful content, the search giant today announced on its security blog. The new measure should make it harder for malcious websites to continue to spread malware.google_logo_420_color_2xChrome users are already warned through Google's Safebrowsing feature when websites offer harmful content. Also website owners are warned when Google detects violations of Google’s Malware, Unwanted Software, Phishing, and Social Engineering Policies.

However, some websites only temporarily remove the harmful content and put it back when Google marks the site safe again. Therefore Google will keep track of websites that repeatedly offer malcious content. If a site is too frequently detected then Google will show a warning for that website for a 30 days.

"Sites that repeatedly switch between compliant and noncompliant behavior within a short window of time will be classified as Repeat Offender," Google writes on a support page explaing the new measure.

The special warning doesn't disappear by temporarily changing the website. Website owners also can't ask Google to evaluate their site again, that's only possible after the 30 days penalty.
