Hulu service for PS3 expected

It's possible video service Hulu will find its way to the Sony PlayStation 3 game console, because both companies are interested in offering paid content to viewers.

The Hulu service would be available to PlayStation Network users.

The PS3 remains locked in a battle with the Xbox 360 to provide streaming content for gamers.  Sony has an advantage with a built-in Blu-ray player, but gamers have enjoyed the Xbox 360's better game selection.

Bloomberg’s report didn’t indicate when an official announcement will be made, but it could happen later this week.

It's currently unknown how much gamers will be charged for the service, but they would have access to content from ABC, NBC, and Fox.  Hulu is reportedly in negotiations with CBS, Time Warner and Viacom, but nothing has been announced.

Meanwhile, Hulu also has looked for ways to expand -- and generate revenue by offering popular movies and TV shows.  The company tried to expand to the UK, but has been unable to secure a deal just yet.

It seems like a logical next step -- Hulu is best known for showing full-length movies and TV episodes with periodic commercial breaks -- and the service ported into the living room could be a major success.

A Hulu service for the Xbox 360 was rumored to be announced during E3 earlier in the month, but licensing problems are holding up that deal.

Hulu believes media is "an impulse business," which means the company has to be more flexible depending on what customers need.  If customers want to watch content across multiple platforms, they should be able to do so.  Netflix and other content providers also are trying to expand by partnering with console makers, HDTV makers, Blu-ray manufacturers and copyright holders.
