IMAX in active discussions on bringing Netflix and Amazon content to large screens

Canadian IMAX Corporation has stated to be in active discussions with Netflix, Amazon and other streaming services on an IMAX release. This would mean content of the streaming services would become viewable on super-size screens.

IMAX CEO, Richard Gelfond, told The Hollywood Reporter that his company is in talks with all streaming services. He didn't provide any further details on the talks, so it's unclear whether IMAX wants exclusivity. It's also unknown in what time frame content of e.g. Netflix or Amazon will become available in IMAX movie theaters.

Mindful of push back from traditional exhibitors, Gefond said the large-screen exhibitor will respect the theatrical window so that the release for streaming service subscribers won't be deferred.

“But over time, to me, it's inevitable that these big blockbusters that people are spending all this money on, are going to have a theatrical release and I think almost certainly an IMAX release,” he added.
