Intel is planning to launch a successor to its low cost 600p series PCIe SSDs, the 610p. This NVMe SSD will come in a M.2 2280 form factor and use the PCI-Express 3.0 x4 interface. The 610p will be available in capacities of 128, 256, 512GB and 1 and 2 TB.
The information comes from the Taiwanese website BenchLife who also posted a snippet of an Intel roadmap. The roadmap indicates the 610p will be based on 3D TLC NAND flash memory from Intel and Micron's IMFlash joint venture.
Users who are interested in in the 610p series SSDs will have to wait a little, according to BenchLife the drives will come no earlier than the 4th quarter of 2017.
Intel also appears to be planning a BGA version of the 600p series. These are multi-chip modules that combine the NAND memory and the SSD controller in a single package. These are especially useful for laptops and small-form factor desktops. The 600p BGA variant will come in a M.2 1620 formfactor and will be available in capacities of 128, 256 and 512GB.
