Intel to follow up low cost 600p NVMe SSD series with 610p series in 2017

Intel is planning to launch a successor to its low cost 600p series PCIe SSDs, the 610p. This NVMe SSD will come in a M.2 2280 form factor and use the PCI-Express 3.0 x4 interface. The 610p will be available in capacities of 128, 256, 512GB and 1 and 2 TB.myce-intel-600p-ssd

The information comes from the Taiwanese website BenchLife who also posted a snippet of an Intel roadmap. The roadmap indicates the 610p will be based on 3D TLC NAND flash memory from Intel and Micron's IMFlash joint venture.intel-ssd-610p

Users who are interested in in the 610p series SSDs will have to wait a little, according to BenchLife the drives will come no earlier than the 4th quarter of 2017.

Intel also appears to be planning a BGA version of the 600p series. These are multi-chip modules that combine the NAND memory and the SSD controller in a single package. These are especially useful for laptops and small-form factor desktops. The 600p BGA variant will come in a M.2 1620 formfactor and will be available in capacities of 128, 256 and 512GB.
