ioSafe introduces indestructible USB 3.0 external HDD

ioSafe recently introduced the ioSafe SoloPro external HDD with USB 3.0 and eSATA/USB 2.0 support, as the manufacturer continues to increase its line of rugged Solo external HDDs.

The new HDD is available with 1TB, 1.5TB or 2TB capacities -- and transfer speeds can top 100 MB/s.

The drive itself can be submerged in 10 feet of water for 72 hours or withstand flames up to 1550°F for 30 minutes.  ioSafe also included physical tamper prevention to make it even more difficult for a thief to try to access the normal 3.5-inch HDD inside of the external shell.

ioSafe includes a $2,500 insurance warranty in case forensic recovery is necessary, allowing for the retrieval of important data if the HDD is badly damaged.  A 12-month Data Recovery Service and a replacement service is also available to customers who purchase a rugged external HDD.

The ioSafe SoloPro will be released on September 1 for $249.99 (1TB), $319.99 (1.5TB), and $419.99 (2TB).

Companies have looked to add durability and ruggedness to their flash memory drives and portable HDDs, because of the higher likelihood they'll end up sustaining damage.  ioSafe is even including the option for a heat-resistant paint coating that is bright orange to make the HDD easy to find after a fire.

During CES 2010, ioSafe showed off its Solo SSD that weighs 20 pounds and can endure heat, fire, shock, and high levels of impact.  Similar to its SSD offering, this HDD product announcement is designed for a very select few companies and users that are worried about the possibility of their drive being damaged due to fire, water, shock or other possible onslaughts.
