iTunes to receive Blu-ray support

Multiple sources indicate the latest version of iTunes, expected next month, will include support for Blu-ray, which would make sense since the company is expected to integrate Blu-ray into its new iMac product lineup in future editions.

Sources who spoke with BoyGeniusReport indicate iTunes 9.0 will also have support for visually organizing and arranging their iPhone or iPod MP3 players.  Many iTunes users have long-requested this feature, as organization must be done on the iPhone or iPod, rather than through iTunes.

Other rumored features include social network integration so iTunes users can have direct access to Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm.  In addition, iPhone apps listings should be introduced, because the sheer number of iPhone apps -- with dozens added daily -- can be extremely difficult to navigate.

Apple hasn't publicly announced features for iTunes 9.0, but BoyGeniusReport usually is extremely accurate when dealing with unconfirmed rumors.  Furthermore, Apple previously had a hands-off approach to Blu-ray, with Steve Jobs even saying the format is a "bag of hurt," but a growing number of Apple users say they want Blu-ray support.

I'm not a big fan of iTunes -- I'm one of those people who dread when it's time to add or remove songs from my iPod -- but have noticed positive changes to each new version of the program.  Blu-ray support and the ability to more easily organize the songs on my MP3 players definitely are a couple of features I look forward to.
