Japanese company starts sales of 3TB 2.5" SATA SSD

The Japanese company Fixstars today announced it will start sales of a SATA SSD with a capacity of 3TB. Fixstars claims its SSD-3000M is currently the highest capacity 2.5" SATA SSD available. The high capacity SSDs are targeted at media professionals. myce-fixstars-ssd

Besides the 3000M, Fixstars also announced the start of sales of a 1TB SSD, the 1000M. The manufacturer also claims to release a 5TB SSD in the first quarter of this year, but it's unclear whether the 5000M will be a 2.5" SATA SSD.

The SATA-3 SSDs contain 19nm MLC NAND memory and offer sequential read speeds of 520 MB/s and write speeds of 350MB/s which can be increased to 500MB/s using a boost mode.

Fixstars targets the drives at professional content producers, advanced driver assistance systems, HPC applications and data centers. After an earlier introduction in Japan, the drives will also become available in the United States. The 1TB model will be sold at $990, the price of the 3TB has not been disclosed yet.
