JVC launches world's smallest HDD camcorder

JVC launched what it claims to be the smallest and lightest HDD camcorder in the world, unveiling the Everio GZ-HD620 camcorder.

JVC's latest camcorder weighs just 0.59 pounds and is 4.5 inches (L) x 2.5 inches (W), which makes it ideal when traveling, the company said.

The camcorder has a built-in 120GB HDD, 30x optical zoom, 2.7-inch LCD, and a microSD slot to easily increase storage.  JVC also included 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, 1080p support, and an automatic YouTube upload feature.  The battery provides enough power for 45 minutes of continuous shooting, though the HDD can hold up to 11 hours of video at 24 Mbps full-resolution.

Ultra compact pocket camcorders, smartphones & digital cameras with video recording abilities have continued to increase competition in the camcorder market, which has forced manufacturers to make adjustments to their products.

Expect additional announcements from other manufacturers aiming to offer small, light HDD camcorders that have better zoom and recording features than digital cameras and smartphones.  In fact, similar product announcements and launches are expected to take place during CES next month in January.
