KickAssTorrents starts own release group KATRG to distribute pirated movies

The popular torrent site KickAssTorrents (KAT) will start its own release group by the name KATRG. With the move the site hopes to fill up the gap left by popular movie release group YIFY that recently disappeared from the internet.

Internet pirates have been wondering which group would take over the activities of YIFY. It appears the KickAss Torrents Release Group (KATRG) is going to replace them and make sure movie pirates get a steady stream of new movies.

Torrentfreak reports that dozens of movies have been uploaded by the KATRG label the last couple of days. These movies vary from high quality Blu-ray rips (such as The Walk) till screeners of movies that currently can only be viewed in movie theaters (like the Peanuts Movie).

The reason KickAssTorrents has started to upload new movies is likely to provide its users with a reliable source of pirated movies. Since YIFY ceased to exist pirates have scoured the web for other ways to obtain movies. Sometimes they end up on unreliable sites that could contain malicious code or use drive-by downloads to infect them with malware.

KickAssTorrent is currently the most popular torrent site. The site gained a lot of new users when The Pirate Bay was offline for a long time. When  that site made it back online, many pirates already switched to KAT.
