Lenovo announces new ThinkPads prior to CES

Days before CES 2010 kicks off in Las Vegas, Lenovo announced a revamped ThinkPad notebook lineup, offering even more options in the company's already popular notebook catalog.

The company has introduced the ThinkPad T410, T510, T410s, and W510 notebooks, along with 13-inch, 14-inch and 15-inch ThinkPad Edge notebooks.  Lenovo is targeting the small to medium-sized business (SMB) market, but will have stiff competition as rivals are expected to announce similar products later this week.

The T410 and T510 are the latest enterprise notebooks from Lenovo, sporting options for an Intel Core i5-520M (2.4 GHz), Core i5-540M (2.53 GHz) or the Core i7-620M (2.66 GHz) CPU.  Lenovo will offer up to 8GB DDR3 memory, depending on what the consumer needs.  Each notebook has the Intel integrated graphics chipset and the NVIDIA discrete GPU.  An 80GB or 128GB SSD is available for storage.

The ThinkPad X100e is powered by the AMD Vision Pro technology, with a choice of single or dual-core AMD processors.  The Edge includes a large multitouch touchpad, new keyboard, and the function keys also have been redesigned. Lenovo axed the embedded number pad, removing the archaic buttons from the keypad.

Each ThinkPad Edge ships with Microsoft Windows 7, Wi-Fi and optional Bluetooth and 3G functionality.

These are the first ThinkPad Edge products that come with AMD processors, utilizing a dual-core processor along with VisionPro graphics.  The lowest retail price for the ThinkPad Edge is $549.

Lenovo is well known in the enterprise, but its shift more towards consumer notebooks indicates a blurring line between work and personal notebooks.  At first glance, the ThinkPad Edge, with prices starting at $549, should be appealing for consumers looking for a mobile product with a bit more horsepower than netbooks.
