LulzSec hacks U.S. Senate, Minecraft, Eve Online & many other sites

What do the MMOs "EVE Online" and "League of Legends," video game news site The Escapist, DIY creation game "Minecraft" and the U.S. Senate have in common? They've all been attacked by LulzSec.The prolific group added the five to an ever-growing list of cyber conquests today - which, along with video game publisher Bethesda over the weekend, brings its weekly tally to six. It's only Tuesday.

Lulz Sec took credit for gagging the self-proclaimed "mouthpiece of the gaming generation" and shutting down both "EVE Online" log-in and website services - the latter verified by the game's publisher CCP Games, who tweeted "EVE Online and related services experienced an Internet attack. We have taken them down as a security precaution." Popular PC title "Minecraft" was also hit, though as press time the official site is available; LulzSec claims it took down the game's servers. Just minutes ago, the group boasted that they took down the "League of Legends" log-in servers. The official site, however, remains active.

More importantly, LulzSec accessed Senate.gov and promptly published some info culled during the attack.

"We don't like the US government very much," said LulzSec. "Their boats are weak, their lulz are low, and their sites aren't very secure. In an attempt to help them fix their issues, we've decided to donate additional lulz in the form of owning them some more!"

According to CNET, government officials confirmed that no user information contained at the site was compromised and that the hackers were only able to read/copy information readily available to the public.

No further attacks are planned for the day, said the group.
