Micron and SK Hynix to invest in Taiwanese SSD controller developers

Micron and SK Hynix might soon invest in Taiwanese SSD controller developers Silicon Motion, Phison and JMicron. Digitimes reports that due to a growing demand for SSDs both Micron and SK Hynix want to strengthen their competitiveness and to continue to have access SSD controllers.

The companies worry that the popular SandForce SSD controllers might soon only become available to Seagate who recently acquired LSI's flash divisions from Avago, who in its turn announced at the beginning of 2014 it would acquire LSI.

The Taiwanese controller developers are no strangers to Korean SK Hynix and the American Micron. Silicon Motion has been cooperating for years with SK Hynix and Phison with Micron.  The latter is rumored to become a strategic partner for Phison by buying shares of the company.
