Microsoft admits freezing issues when Windows 10 Anniversary Update is installed on SSD

Microsoft has admitted that users might suffer from a fully freezing computer after installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. We previously reported about the freezes that usually happen directly after logging in.

In a forum post a Microsoft moderator writes, "Microsoft has received a small number of reports of Windows 10 freezing after installing the Anniversary Update on systems with the operating system stored on a solid-state drive (SSD) and apps and data stored on a separate drive. This issue does not occur when starting Windows 10 in Safe Mode."

The company is working on an update but for now recommends affected users to either uninstall the Anniversary Update, boot into Safe Mode and move apps and data to the same disk as where Windows 10 is installed.

Users who opt for uninstalling the Anniversary Update should do this within the rollback period of 10 days. Microsoft provides two other methods for users that are unable to get into Windows 10 because it freezes. One involves the recovery console, the other the settings app in safe mode.
