The three updates marked as "critical" fixes an issue allowing an attacker to execute arbitrary code on a computer without user interference such as e.g. visiting a hacked or malicious website. For these "Critical" rated vulnerabilities Microsoft releases patches for Internet Explorer, Windows and the .NET Framework.

Microsoft has marked five other security bulletins as "Important". Two of these updates also patch an arbitrary code vulnerability but these require considerable user interaction to succeed. Therefore the software giant has given them a lower rating than the "Critical" marked vulnerabilities.

The remaining three updates patch a vulnerability that allowed an attack to circumvent a security feature and another one is for a vulnerability that allows an attacker to elevate his rights on the PC. That issue is also fixed by the last update which has received a  "Low" security rating.
