Microsoft launches free Outlook app for iOS and Android - and Office apps for Android tablets

Microsoft today released an Outlook app for iOS and Android. The app is a modified version of Accompli, an e-mail app which Microsoft acquired several months ago. The app supports Gmail, iCloud and Dropbox.

In December last year Microsoft announced it acquired Accompli. For today's release the software giant renamed the app and now  makes it available in the Play Store and App Store. The app works with mail accounts from Microsoft's own services Exchange and Outlook.com, but also also supports Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo and common IMAP accounts. It can also be connected to OneDrive and Dropbox to easily attach and view files.

Besides Outlook for iOS and Android, Microsoft has also released Office apps for Android tablets. The apps make it possible for tablet users to open, edit and create Office documents. In order to use the app a tablet with a display between 7" and 10.1" and at least Android 4.4  is required. Android 5.0 isn't fully supported yet, and also Android tablets running on Intel CPUs aren't supported.

Office for iOS was already available for some time, but now also Word, Excel and Powerpoint have been added to the Play Store. For now there is no Office for Android phones.
