Microsoft has obtained a patent for a technology that makes it possible to control a virtual keyboard by looking at it. By looking at different keys on the keyboard it should be possible to enter text without actually touching the device.
Users don’t have to look at each character separately, the technology works similar as current Swype keyboards which allow swiping from character to character while keeping the finger on the screen. In the case of this Microsoft patented technology, this doesn’t work by using a finger but with a camera that tracks the movements of the eyes.
The technology from Microsoft isn’t entirely new. Earlier this year an Israeli developer who suffers from the crippling disease ALS is developer software with similar capabilities.
