The Office app is a free app that acts as a hub that provides access to all Office applications and recently used documents. Functionality of the new Office app is similar to the My Offic app which Microsoft already installed on all Windows 10 computers by default, similar to its Mail, Money and OneNote apps.

However, the new Office app has additional features, has support for Office 2016 and 2019, and is better integrated with Office Online, Microsoft's Google Docs competitor. The main task of the My Office app appeared to be promotion of Office 365 subscriptions.

The new app makes use of Microsoft Search that makes it possible to search within all Office apps and documents, including shared documents. For now the new Office app appears to be only available in the United States. It will likely become gradually available in other countries as well.
