Microsoft removes Google Chrome app from Windows 10 Store

Microsoft has removed the Google Chrome app from the Microsoft Store. The app contained nothing more than a download link to the browser and therefore didn't adhere to the quality guidelines of the Microsoft Store, according to Microsoft.

In a statement to The Verge, Microsoft stated, "we have removed the Google Chrome Installer App from Microsoft Store, as it violates our Microsoft Store policies."

Google reportedly added the app to the Microsoft store to prevent users from downloading one of the many fake versions of the browser. The regular Chrome browser is not allowed as a Microsoft Store app, because it uses different (its own) HTML and Javascript render engines than Microsoft allows.

Without an official Chrome app, Windows 10 users first have to start Microsoft Edge to download Google Chrome.
