Microsoft starts rolling out Intel microcode updates for Skylake CPUs

Microsoft has started to roll-out Intel-microcode updates for several Skylake processors. The updates should protect against the second variant of the Spectre attack. To be fully protected against Spectre and Meltdown attacks, computers need both a software and firmware (microcode) update, according to Microsoft.

However, the microcode updates have limited availability. Due to previous issues, Intel decided to withdraw the first batch of microcode updates. Meanwhile new microupdates have been released. Microsoft will offer the Intel microcode updates through its Microsoft Update Catalog.

First in line are updates for Skylake processors from devices running Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Once more microcode-updates have been made available by Intel, Microsoft will offer those too.
