Microsoft stops OEM sales of Windows 7 and Windows 8 licenses

Microsoft has officially stopped selling Windows 7 Professional and Windows 8 licenses for OEMs. From now on new laptops will only be sold with Windows 10 pre-installed. Other versions of Windows 7 and Windows 8, such as Home Basic, Home Premium and Ultimate were already no longer available for sale.

The end of sales for PCs with Windows pre-installed is especially targeted at OEMs. Microsoft already ended the retail sales of Windows 7 Home and Ultimate in 2014. The company allowed business users to still purchase a Professional license.

It’s nevertheless still possible that you find computers with Windows 7 preinstalled in stores, obviously stocks have to be cleared.

Microsoft will continue to provide Windows 7 with security updates till at least 2020.
