Microsoft's aggressive upgrade policy boosts Windows 10 marketshare

Microsoft's aggressive methods to 'convince' Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users to upgrade to Windows 10 pays off, the company's latest operating system saw its market share grow considerably last month. Previously users complained their computer was upgraded to Windows 10 without their consent. Microsoft denied this and argues some users might have accidently given permission to perform the upgrade.

Nevertheless, Windows 10 market share grew 1.3% in March according to Net Applications, while StatCounter reports a growth of 1.6%. According to Net Applications Windows 10 is installed on 14.15% of all computers connected to the internet while StatCounter reports 16.53%.

Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users are eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 10 till the 29th of July this year. Earlier this week Microsoft reported that the OS runs on 270 million devices, the company aims to have it installed on 1 billion devices eventually.
