Netflix removes Dolby Digital 5.1 support from apps for Samsung TVs

Netflix has removed support for Dolby Digital 5.1 in its Smart TV applications for selected Samsung TVs and Blu-ray players. The company would be unable to get surround sound working on devices and owners of the affected devices have to settle for stereo sound.

Devices with issues are Samsung H-series Smart TVs and several H-series Blu-ray players.  The movie streaming service lists the affected Samsung H-series as supported TVs for Dolby Digital 5.1 and also Blu-ray players with model numbers H5500, H5900 and H6500 are listed as compatible with Dolby Digital soundtracks. However users around the internet complain that in an recent update of the Netflix app the Dolby Digital 5.1 sound option has been removed.

According to Netflix the Dolby Digital option has been removed because it doesn't work as expected and the company has stated it's working on a fix to support surround sound on the problematic Samsung device again. It's estimated that Netflix will bring out an update fixing the issue in about two to four weeks. Till then owners of the affected Samsung devices will have to settle for stereo sound.
