Netflix to introduce Ultra tier and lower number of simultaneous streams for other plans

Netflix is considering an additional, more expensive, subscription tier that allows more up to 4 users to stream Ultra HD video at the same time. Together with the introduction of the new tier, Netflix limits the number of simultaneous streams for the Premium and Standard plan.

The new tier is called 'Ultra' and is currently available in some markets. It's not sure whether Netflix Ultra will become available globally. Netflix has confirmed to CNET that it's currently testing the new subscription options.

Italian website TuttoAndroid discovered the new tier on the Italian Netflix website. We also found the Ultra plan on the Dutch Netflix site. Just like in Italy it's priced at €16.99 ($19.80). With the new Ultra plan in place, the Premier plan drops the number of simultaneous (Ultra HD) streams from 4 to 2. The number of streams that can be watched at the same time with the Standard plan also drops from 2 to 1.

Users who want to continue to watch Netflix video content on 4 screens will need to pay the additional  €3 ($3.50) for the Ultra subscription. Other features of the Ultra plan are exactly the same as the Premium.
