Nintendo starts to ban users using Sky3DS or Gateway flashcards for alleged piracy

Several users that used their Nintendo 3DS in combination with a flashcard report to have been banned from Nintendo's online gaming platform. So far the number of banned users seems to be limited and bans seem to be only handed out in specific circumstances.

The first reports of bans were posted on the 4th of February on the GBAtemp forums and currently 14 cases are known. All banned gamers used a Sky3DS or Gateway flashcard which makes it possible to play game backups from a SD card. It seems the banning started together with the release of system update 9.5 of the portable console. However the update doesn't ban everyone using the concerned flashcards.

Users with a ban received error code 002-0102 and can't go online anymore. Games like Pokemon, Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart appear to detect that gamers use a flashcard. There are reports that Nintendo Japan has confirmed the bans, however this appears to be just a claim of a single Chinese user, an official confirmation has still not been given.
