No torrent sites in Top 10 Google's most removed URLs

The top 10 of Google's most removed pages doesn't contain torrent sites. The list is sorted based on the amount of copyright claims. Google keeps a list of sites that have been removed based on copyright claims. The number one on the list is file sharing site 4shared.com.

The site can still be found in Google's index but a part of the site's pages is no longer in Google's database. On the removed pages the website offered downloads of copyright protected material. In total Google removed more than 8.5 million pages of 4shared.com.

Although torrent sites didn't make it to the top 10,  they can be found on lower spots. The popular torrent site The Pirate Bay is on the 18th spot with 1,662,514 removed pages and the also popular website  Kickass Torrent  is on spot 48 with 1,027,739 removed URLs.

The pages are only removed from Google's index (and often also from Bing and Yahoo) but are still available on the sites itself and can still be found with the search feature of the sites themselves.

Google receives about a million URL removal requests per day and the search giant removes URLs of which the copyright holders ask for removal usually within hours from its index. Although Google accurately keeps up with the list, Youtube isn't on the list. The video site also receives many copyright claims but for unknown reasons Google has decided to not put them on the list.

Due to a new European law from 2014, Europeans can also request for removal of search results.
