AnyDVD alternatives - now Slysoft is down and gone

Since Slysoft appears to be gone forever after legal issues, users might be looking for AnyDVD alternatives that also offer DVD and Blu-ray decryption. Therefore we've compiled a list of all current DVD and Blu-ray decryption solutions that are currently still sold. They can serve as an alternative to AnyDVD (HD) although some would say, nothing can compete with Slysoft's software.

It's unclear whether the software developed by Slysoft will ever appear online again, it could be bought by a third party or it could be open sourced, but only time will tell.

Nevertheless, there are other software developers that are still able to sell software that is able to let you make backups of movies you own. Here's a list of AnyDVD alternatives that are still available and are able to decrypt DVD and Blu-ray discs enabling you to make backups of your favorite movies.

DVDFab is a well known name and has been in business for years. The company is located China which till now has been a safe haven against the American entertainment industry. The company even withstood a complete seizure of their domain and further attempts by the AACS-LA to close down the company. DVDFab's AnyDVD alternatives are called Passkey for both DVDs and Blu-ray discs.

SoThink Media

This relatively new company, also based in China sells a wide range of movie backup software which also includes a Blu-ray ripping and DVD ripping product. The Blu-ray ripper still needs a third party ripper (e.g. Passkey) but the DVD ripper works standalone. The Blu-ray ripper sells at $56.99 for  1 year and $86.99 for a  lifetime license. The DVD ripper costs $36.99  for 1 year and a lifetime license costs $56.99.

Ideal DVD / Blu-ray Ripper

The Chinese company Ideal offers a free 10 day trial of their Blu-ray ripping software which normally sells at $59.95 and is currently available at $49.95. The company regularly updates their software to allow decryption of new movies. They also have a solution for decrypting DVD movies, which sells at $39.97 for a lifetime license.

PavTube DVD / Blu-ray Ripper

Also PavTube is a Chinese company, and has DVD and Blu-ray ripping software for sale. The DVD ripping software is currently sold at $35 and the Blu-ray ripping software sets you back $39.20. The company also offers several bundles which might save you some money if you're in the market for a full movie copy solution.

Leawo DVD / Blu-ray ripper

The company Leawo offers both DVD and Blu-ray ripping products for both Windows and Mac. They have a free trial and when that’s done you can buy the Blu-ray ripper for $44.95 and their DVD ripper for $29.95, for both a year of free updates. A lifetime license is $99.95 for the Blu-ray ripper and $39.95 for the DVD ripper. If you buy the Blu-ray ripper, you’ll get the DVD ripper for free.

Magic Blu-ray Ripper

Magic offers Blu-ray ripping software for both Windows and Mac. A lifetime license is currently available at $49.95, which saves you a whopping $70. (thanks for the tip zebadee!)

Longo DVD Ripper / Blu-ray Ripper

Longo sells both a DVD Ripper and Blu-ray Ripper, the latter appears not to have been updated for a while, but we list it here to make our overview complete. The DVD Ripper is available for both Mac and Windows and sells at $24.97 for a lifetime license. The Blu-ray Ripper sells at $39.99 for a lifetime license and is also available for both Mac and Windows.

Aunsoft

Aunsoft sells both a Blu-ray Ripper and DVD Ripper, the latter costs $35 while the Blu-ray Ripper sets you back $49. Also this software is available for Mac and Windows.

4VideoSoft

The DVD and Blu-ray ripping solutions from 4VideoSoft are also available for Windows and Mac computers. The Blu-ray ripper is sold for $39 and the DVD Ripper for $45.

MakeMKV

MakeMVK is free to use and will deal with decryption of both DVDs and Blu-rays. The software won't be an one step solution for most users as it doesn't compress video. It will always repackage DVDs to MKV files. Blu-ray movies can be made into an uncompressed MKV file or ripped to the HDD.

Digiarty WinX DVD / Blu-ray Ripper

Digiarty is a Chinese company that sells a lot of video conversion software. The company offers Blu-ray and DVD decryption software. Although the website states, product invalid for the Blu-ray decryption software, it seems to be still available but purchasing it seems to be impossible. The last update was also in 2012, so probably not your best choice. Their DVD decryption software is still available and currently on sale at $39.99. The company also offers several bundles which might save you some money.

DVD43 and DVDDecrypter

Both are free to use applications that can be used to decrypt DVDs, Blu-ray discs are not supported. You can get DVDDecrypter here and DVD43 here.
