NVIDIA has enabled 3D Blu-ray playback on PCs, thanks to the latest GeForce driver update.

The beta version of the 256 driver enables 3D Blu-ray support for NVIDIA's 3D Vision glasses, with a WHQL-certified version of the driver planned for early June. The new driver is available for desktop and notebook GeForce GPUs, offering new visual quality modes along with improved multi-GPU setup controls.

The driver release comes six weeks after the launch of NVIDIA's GTX 400 series graphics cards, with the GTX 465, 470 and 480 supporting 3D Blu-ray hardware acceleration. Earlier GTX models do not support 3D Blu-ray hardware acceleration, instead relying on the CPU to carry the load - with NVIDIA recommending a quad-core processor for best results.

NVIDIA has also published a list of 3D Blu-ray system requirements, listing compatible monitors, televisions, projectors and graphics cards.
