OCZ announces Vector 180 SSDs with Barefoot 3 controller and Toshiba MLC NAND

OCZ today announced the Vector 180 SSDs series, equipped with a Barefoot 3 controller. The solid state disks are available in capacities up to 960GB, while the maximum read speed is specified at up to 550MB/s.

The Vector 180 SSDs are targeted at the mainstream market and contain a Barefoot 3 M00 -controller that controls 19nm MLC Flash NAND from Toshiba. The drive connects to the computer using the SATA-3 interface. Besides a 960GB drive, also drives with capacities of 120GB, 240GB and 480GB are available.

The 960GB drive is the fastest, it is able to achieve sequential read and write speeds of respectively 550 and 530MB/s. When it comes to random 4k reads it should be able to achieve up to 100,000 IOPS, while doing writes at 95,000 IOPS. The other models are a tad slower when it comes to random disk performance.

OCZ has also added "Power Failure Management Plus" technology that should prevent data loss in case of a sudden power failure. The Vector 180 SSDs come with Acronis True Image software, a 3.5" adapter and a 5 year warranty. Prices range from $90 for the 120GB drive, while the 960GB will cost around $500.
